Great Horned Owl
(24 x 18 inches)
2006
Detail

This piece was created on a canvas. The background was done with acrylic paints. The tree is composed of small pieces of bark (from pine trees) that I had picked up on my walks. A thick application of glue holds it in place and also coats the bark. The owl was from a photograph that I printed out onto fabric. I painted on it and glued feathers on the wings, head and ears. The eyes are yellow buttons with the black centers made from polymer clay. The beak and claws are also baked polymer clay. I named him Max, and he sits on top of an old card catalog in my office at the library.
